2023 Report (for the year 2022)

In the struggle we are engaged in, it is salutary to create moments of reflection on the period that has elapsed, in order to better account for the hardships endured. That's why the Collectif contre l'islamophobie en Europe (CCIE) is presenting its first report, looking back on a year 2022 that has been full of lessons learned.
This report aims to better define the contours of an Islamophobia which, although changing, seems to be growing in effectiveness and sophistication. Contrary to a well-known theory (that to speak of Islamophobia is to speak of "victimisation"), the aim is not to feel sorry for the reality of Islamophobia, but to equip ourselves with the means best suited to combating it. Looking back over the past year, we can reassess the specific issues that Islamophobia represents today. µ
Unfortunately, the year just ended was no exception. It confirms a major trend that has been at work for several years in Europe. Islamophobia is proliferating and flourishing with relative impunity - without any recognition of its seriousness or any real measures being taken by Europe's political decision-makers.
The very circumstances in which the Collectif contre l'islamophobie en Europe was founded are worth recalling. Our association was born out of the Islamophobia offensive that led to the dissolution of several Muslim organisations, including the Collectif contre l'islamophobie en France (CCIF), which was exclusively dedicated to providing legal and moral support to victims of Islamophobia. The CCIE is thus the proud heir to the history of the CCIF, which many French citizens - Muslims and non-Muslims alike - have trusted and continue to support.
Our aim is to broaden our scope of action at European level, to provide the same expertise and support to Muslims in Belgium, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Germany and Denmark. So, while the data collected by the CCIE mainly concerns the French situation, we are actively working to ensure that Muslims throughout Europe, regardless of their geographical location, are also supported by the CCIE and can seek its legal and moral assistance when they feel the need.
We would like to extend our warmest thanks to all those who enable the CCIE to fight for the rights of Muslims, to all those who express their support for our work on a daily basis, thereby providing us with extremely valuable support.
